This series of photos follow a little Japanese Boy, Akkun who was living in Singapore at the time when we met.
We stumbled into each by chance through the Painter Yip Yew Cheong. Somehow, the three of us - Akkun, his Mother and I hit off almost immediately, like old friends seeing each other again. I was drawn by the fact that Akkun is not camera-shy and has both a dramatic and yet authentic expression. His Mother was like both a Producer and his greatest Fan, often directing his pose.
Many of the photos in this series show an interaction with Art. This is because we all met and were connected through following Art in the City. It is my belief that Art is Life and Life is Art. Art has this special ability to re-balance us: it comforts the disturb and disturbs the comfortable. In Life, we are all looking for the balance which best suits us.
This set of photos is my version of “The Little Prince”. We see Akkun discovering his passion and talent befitting of a little comedian. He takes pleasure in making people laugh; and he is rather good at it too. One wonders if it is his dream or that of his Mother. But it doesn’t really matter does it? What matters most is to cherish each moment and to be happy.
I am reminded of this quote from the book, The Little Prince, "all grown-ups were once children…but only a few of them remember it".
