During wartime a human being gets closer to the ground: he sleeps and wakes up in a (ground) trench, jokes, eats, shaves, is photographed, bombed, and buried in the land he fights for. Stuck in the ground like a root, the back of a sleeping soldier, merged with the backbone of the Armenian Highlands, is an organic part of his landscape. The trench becomes his home- a house without a roof and walls.
Frontline between Nerkin Khndzoresk village and Kashatagh Province (that came under the control of Azerbaijan after all). On September 27, 2020, a large-scale war resumed along the entire borderline between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. Armenia and Azerbaijan fought for the Nagorno-Karabakh region in 1988-94 which has been the trigger for further violence in the years since. The ceasefire was established 44 days later, on November 10, by a trilateral agreement between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
