About Kaishui Yikai Liu

Kaishui Yikai Liu was born in China and studied Digital Media at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts before completing a Master's in Fashion Photography at London College of Fashion, UAL. Now based in London, he works as an independent photographer whose practice is rooted in contemporary social themes, guided by a sustained curiosity about the human condition. He is driven by a deep commitment to capturing what he describes as "the light, the joy, and the sorrow" of the people he photographs.

Kaishui's work has been recognised internationally. He is a winner of the Photobook Category at Belfast Photo Festival (The Days Gone Past), and has been shortlisted for both the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize and the British Journal of Photography. His photographs have been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery (London), National Galleries Scotland, Christie's (London), Three Shadows Art Centre (Beijing), and Perfetti Gallery (London). His work has appeared in Dazed, Another Magazine, and It's Nice That, among others.
