"The Nyiragongo volcano in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a truly amazing sight, but the fact that it is remote and located in a conflict zone makes access complicated. I feel privileged to have been there and I think the images portray the unique beauty of the place." —Klaus Thymann

Fox Glacier, New Zealand. The glacier is a stunning (and worrisome) example of glacial retreat.

Klaus and his team had to overcome rocks, boulders, and trees to arrive at a ridge in which they could fully view and photograph the Fox Glacier.

One of the most impressive aspects of the glacier is the juxtaposition between the glacial ice and lush vegetation nearby. The rainforest sits underneath the retreating glacier. It is just one of two such glaciers in the world.

The glacier was in full retreat for over a century, then advanced between 1985 and 2009 and now is back into full retreat.

Angelita Cenote, Yucatan peninsula, Mexico. A cenote is a natural pit, or sinkhole, that forms after a collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath.

This process veils clear water with a shadow of mud and leaves, leaving visibility extremely low. Once teams descend to the bottom however, the initial ominous layer trickles into a glowing cloud of hydrogen sulphide that displays an eerie, yet alluring landscape.

“I have wanted to dive the Angelita cenote since I first heard about it, It’s an incredible experience to see this really strange underwater environment. It looks evil in a very beautiful way..."
