The Irish Travellers are the marginalized community in Ireland. Known also as Gypsies or Tinkers, they are traditional, gender-based- with strong feelings of family, lifelong bonds and God. Life for most is a daily struggle but I was very taken with the role of the females in this community. Marrying young, having an average of 12 babies, not valuing eduction they are living lives of hardship and poverty. Research shows 81% domestic violence and extremely high incidences of suicide a,mong these women. Some of the yung women are choosing smaller familes and wanting to sat in school so they can work and help bring them a better life. I hope to continue to document this and wish change happens! In March 2017 the Republic of Ireland acknowledged them as an Ethnic Culture. There is resistance among the 'settled' Irish. I hope to hlep advocate for their basic human rights! Everyone deserves that!
