October 2015, The Lake District National Park in NW England bid for UNESCO World Heritage status. Fast forward to July 2017, and (trumpets sound) "Welcome to Britain's newest UNESCO World Heritage certified area".
It might be celebrated for mountains and lakes, its Romantic Poets, famed for spawning many-a world famous author, its rich history of mining, film settings and of Roman forts, yet the reality of living within a 38x32 mile national park is not one long Arcadian Toil; well, it is at times!
These images will never grace a toffee or chocolate box lid, never be seen on post cards sent home, on calendars exchanged at Xmas or in framed images taken home and placed on living room walls, but it is my hope to portray a quirky side to "The Bid", reflecting instead a living, breathing dynamic community of some 45,000 people who choose to live and work in the park; plus the 18,000,000(ish) visitors we host annually.
