In the “Puppet Archive” series, I delve into the blurred lines between reality and illusion through re-photography and digital collage, building on the methods developed in my earlier works, “Temporary Performers” and “Artificial Theater.” My approach consistently involves capturing a vast array of real-world portraits and materials. I meticulously reassemble these elements to create new, surreal images. Each piece is paired with a fabricated story, which amplifies the absurdity and falsity of the visuals, akin to news report captions. This method confuses the public and challenges the boundaries between reality and fiction.
By re-examining historical events, movie stills, ancient paintings, and classic documentary photographs, I transform them into chaotic, pseudo-historical montages. This process reveals the constructed nature of public personas and historical narratives, encouraging reflection on media influence and questioning perceptions of truth and fiction. My work’s evolution, from “Temporary Performers” to “Artificial Theater” and now “Puppet Archive,” demonstrates a continuous and deepening investigation into how reality is shaped and manipulated.
