Nadia Knechtle photographs small and large cities in Switzerland with an observant, open eye and yet focused on exciting moments and details. Two photographs are combined to form pairs that create an exciting interaction through formal or thematic similarities. By dispensing with color, the photographic expression is abstracted and strong contrasts between light and shadow come to the fore. This aesthetic is influenced by the deliberate aim of blurring, which is achieved by using an open aperture.
This series is accompanied by an illustrated book: city moments from ten Swiss cities. The pictures are complemented by snippets of conversations overheard in each city. They are excerpts from dialogues – spontaneous moments of everyday life. Just like the pictures. The book can be pre-ordered on the website www.nadiaknechtle.ch
