People, Place and Sport

"As soon as it becomes a hobby and the hobby becomes something you love why not doit every single day. What a better way to be happy." - Josh, Fearless MMA fighter, Hockley People, Place and Sport is a celebration of local communities and sport in the West Midlands. Representation is a key theme throughout Dhaliwal-Boora’s work, and in People, Place and Sport she continues to explore the role of gender and ethnicity through a series of portraits and recorded conversations. Dhaliwal-Boora also shines a light on the sporting hubs tucked away in our landscape, away from the large stadia, where grassroots sport takes place on a weekly basis. In this work, commissioned by the Birmingham CG 2022 Festival, Dhaliwal-Boora asked what sport and the Commonwealth meant to the people of the W.Midlands.
