“In the land of promise a man may die of hunger." (African Proverb)
This photography project is centred around oil exploration in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and how it has led to the exploitation of the citizens that inhabit the land. This corrupt system has created a fraudulent cycle that has kept the ruling class, and a privileged few, rich and kept the citizens poor.
Oil exploration has caused spillages that have contaminated the rivers and destroyed a whole ecosystem of the mangrove swamps leaving little, or no, sea life in the region. In most cases the ruling class do nothing and the western corporations take no responsibility.
