The original intention of Greenland was to document a period of my life as a marginalised member of society, comprising direct, staged portraits and moments shot against the backdrop of my place of residence.
For Greenland I was inspired by hellenvanmeene's images of youth groups and Flannery O'Connor's novel 'Everything That Rises Must Converge'. By setting semi-dramatic scenes and investigating the relationship between text and image, I seek to explore the complexity of the youth group experience and the sense of loss in intimate relationships, combining different individuals through narrative to construct a more shared collective identity. While I am self-reflecting, I am also trying to gain insight into the psychological world of others.
