Barbara

'Barbara' is a self-portrait project, alter ego which I started in January 2021. I tried on a variety of personalities until I found her. With the intention of working on the project for a year, I attempted to do at least one shoot per month. In my work I explore body image, women's roles in society, the strangeness of lockdowns, and the surreality of stillness and quietness, I tried to understand things that I don’t fully understand. Throughout the months, the Alter Ego grew and altered, becoming a more personal figure to me. Sometimes it felt like I was hiding behind the mask, envisioning myself as someone else in certain respects. Another time I simply immersed myself in her character and used dressing up as a form of escapism.
