Redemption, an on-going project, finds inspiration from place, from imagination and from stories of both past and present. It began with the discovery of a large convent house, while I solo travelled along the remote roads of the Whanganui River, New Zealand. Entering this open, silent space, with no one to be found, I experienced a powerful rush with every step exploring what seemed like a forbidden place through its perfection and also its darkness. I was immediately drawn by the long dormitories and perfectly made quilted beds untouched for decades privatised by a single curtain, I could only imagine a place that might hold secrets of a complex past.
Through both feminism and femininity, Redemption explores historical ideas of female energy, sin, temptation and desire through a state of undress.
Free from self-definition; Self-centredness, and self-identity, Redemption is the very essence of one’s soul, power and liberation. Themes I am perpetually drawn to.
