Удачный / Lucky

In far east Russia there is a republic, Jakoetia that exists purely thanks to the discovery of diamonds. Alrosa is the company who owns these diamond mines and they export these also intensly to Antwerp, Belgium. I am interested in the lives of the mineworkers and explored life in the town where the first Russian diamond was found, Удачный which means ‘lucky’. This remote town is surrounded by kilometers of Taiga and its inhabitants experience a harsh climate. It is winter nine months a year. Everyone in this monotown is connected with each other through this mine. Because this town is so isolated, the place feels like a world on its own. The series is a homage to Удачнай‘s proud inhabitants living under harsh climatic conditions in the north of Russia.
