About Markus Andersen

Markus Andersen.

Documentary / Art Photographer.
Documentary, and the urban human environment .

I was born and raised in Sydney, NSW, Australia.
Looking through National Geographic and fine art magazines as a child I was fascinated by light, composition and storytelling.

I attended Sydney Institute Of Technology for 3 years gaining a Diploma Of Photography and from that point I have worked as a freelance photographer.

My first book: "Rage Against The Light" has been released through www.tgpublishing.com.au and a mini movie accompanies the release: https://vimeo.com/137678564

Recently, after many years of taking images for others I made a decision in that I would start concentrating on my personal documentary and fine art work with the aim of exhibitions and fine art photography books.

When shooting documentary or street images I work somewhat instinctively, photographing the elements of light, shadow, and subject dancing together in unity within the frame

Currently, I am focussed on 3 bodies of work: one is a year long project on a Sydney suburb with a somewhat controversial history - the work is designed to change those perceptions (shot all with Fuji digital equipment and also Fuji film), the second project is based on the Sydney Beaches that occupy the eastern coastline (shot entirely with Lomo film cameras and 1960’s and 1970’s Diana 151 & Diana Clone cameras and Lomo LCA 35mm / 120 etc) and the third is my ongoing black and white street work shot with my Leica MP and M4 cameras.

My work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, Istanbul, Toronto, Sydney and the United Kingdom.

Filmmaker Rob Norton recently directed a mini documentary on my Sydney based street work and philosophy.
