About Marie Sueur

I was born in 1979 and grew up in a nomadic family. My sister was born in Chad, my brother in Morocco, and I in Cameroon. These multicultural beginnings nurtured my curiosity for discovery, human encounters, and the unexpected, shaping both my imagination and my love of storytelling. I now live and work in Paris.
A self-taught photographer, I use the medium to explore emotions, the unconscious, and subjects that resist definition. Rather than depicting reality, my work seeks to reveal what lies beneath it, the poetic, the metaphorical, the mysterious.
Experimentation is central to my practice. I often incorporate physical elements such as embroidery, cardboard, or ink to bring materiality to themes that remain intangible.
My photographs have been shown internationally. In 2025, I was named Discovery of the year at the IPA International Photography Awards.
