Giovanna Tonzanu is an Italian photographer based in Spain, where she also works as an Italian language teacher. Her background and personal interests are deeply rooted in literature, poetry, and painting—disciplines that strongly shape her photographic vision. This connection to the arts is evident in her images, which often aim to tell a story or paint a scene, expanding time and transforming fleeting moments into something suspended and enduring.
Her work focuses on human beauty and relationships, exploring themes such as intimacy, loneliness, and social issues. Through a poetic and narrative approach, Giovanna investigates the fragile balance between individuals and their environment, paying particular attention to identity, memory, and the passage of time. She is currently developing long-term projects that explore the mutual connection between people, places, and personal histories.
Among her main projects are And you shine, though, a body of work centered on women—especially those from her native island, Sardinia—and their struggle to remain authentic within contemporary society, and This must be the place, which reflects on the bond between identity and the spaces we inhabit.
