About Ana-Cristina Irian

Ana-Cristina IRIAN (omnia.photo) is a research-based artist, curator, and anthropologist working with photographic archives, memory objects, and multimedia formats. Guided by the motto “No one left behind,” her practice investigates how personal and collective memory are shaped through images, material culture, and spatial transformation.
She studied sociology (Trento & Regensburg) and visual anthropology (Bucharest & Perugia), and holds a Ph.D. in visual arts (UNARTE). Her long-term projects often explore participatory documentation, archive recovery, and the afterlives of objects and places.
Recent works include #mili-eu: Ileana, Mr. B’s Grandmother, EERIE, and The Pantry, In the Kitchen - each engaging with intimate geographies, domestic memory, and overlooked histories, particularly those connected to women’s lives. Her latest work, The Titans (and the Vanishing Green), was exhibited in 2025 at the Chester Photo Festival and the BUNA International Contemporary Art Festival. Cristina has shown her work in over 50 exhibitions across Romania and internationally, and is a member of FUTURES and the Romanian Fine Arts Union.
Cristina has published studies in Anthropology of East Europe Review, Indiana University; History of Communism in Europe, IICCMER; Studies and History Articles, Romanian Society of Historical Sciences; Romanian Contemporary Photography Influx; Revelar, Universidade do Porto.
