The land of the horse. Gers litter the countryside and herds of half wild horses roam. The Mongolians spend their summer months outside from dawn till dusk, riding, cooking, playing, laughing. Immersed in countryside living it feels like a step back in time, to our own nomadic roots, something shifts the longer I stay and a feeling of rightness settles in my soul.
With changing seasons and times, life in Mongolia is becoming more difficult for many herders, the winter months becoming harsher and causing many herders to give up their livelihood and move to the city. However the summer months were full of laughter and happiness for the family I stayed with.
With Airag close at hand, an upcoming festival, afternoons spent on the horse and meat filled feasts to fill the days, it was hard not to feel like this is how life is meant to be spent.
