In both her personal projects and commissioned works, Soulage focuses movement, considered as a
pictorial motif.
The transition from the inherently moving and three dimensional
subject of the body to the flat and static surface
of the image is, for her, an exploration at the edge of narrative
and abstraction.
This relationship between the tangible and the intangible is
at the heart of her visual writing. Beyond its ability to evoke,
bodies in motion, sculpted by light and color, become rhythm
and expression of form.
Her approach to creating images combines formal rigor and
intuitive sensitivity. Her images are created ‘in camera’, not
with post-production effects. Soulage uses light and the
photographic medium to make visible the dynamic projection
in space.
