These images represent several passions of mine; namely street photography,
monochrome photography, film noir and my hometown of Rhyl.
Rhyl is a seaside town and most of the images that people take of Rhyl are of
the beach and sunsets over the sea. I decided I wanted to look closer into the
heart of the town, not shy away from it.
For me Rhyl has a cinematic quality that is often overlooked. I have always
believed that it would make a great backdrop for strong films. Because of this
I wanted all the images to be black and white.
Subsequently I looked closely into the film noir genre which uses chiaroscuro
lighting, unusual angles, strong compositions, shadows and reflections.
I wanted to create images which look as if they could be cinematic stills taken
from a film noir motion picture.
The images were taken over a period of 5 years.
